The Castaways Reef Project is a model of uncompromising style and comfort. It was designed to minimize ongoing operational and maintenance costs, without negatively impacting the environment. The property features 2,000 feet of beachfront facing the Caribbean Sea with 14 acres of land on Calabash Caye in the Turneffe Atoll. The entire property is covered in tropical vegetation with over 600 coconut trees, hundreds of bananas, plantain, blackberry trees, sea grapes, citrus trees, and other exotic plants. The island is protected by a barrier reef only a few hundred feet off shore. This property also enjoys a very high elevation and is well protected by the reef from high seas.

The Turneffe Islands are rated as one of the top Saltwater Fly Fishing destinations in the world. Outstanding diving and snorkeling are available year round just off the beach. This project is ideal as a personal estate or as the beginnings of an upscale resort.

The main home was built with a resort in mind and features 4,250 square feet of luxury. This Deltec home, boasting hurricane proof construction, offers 5 bedrooms each with it's own balcony overlooking the Caribbean, 4 full bathrooms and 2 half baths and is fully furnished with fine antiques and hand made furniture. With separate living and family rooms the owners can chose to mingle with their guests or get away from it all up stairs in their private living quarters.

The home also features an office and a movie theater complete with satellite TV and state of the art electronics so you're never too far away from civilization. The kitchen is truly a site to behold. As the true centerpiece of the main floor, this huge commercial kitchen was designed with the Chef in mind. A 26-foot bar allows guests to watch the show as the chef prepares the meal using state of the art appliances. Every detail was carefully considered when designing the kitchen for maximum ease of use while keeping the area open for the chef to work. The utility area is kept out of site so clean up can be done behind the scenes and away from the guests. Virtually every room in the house has high output and energy efficient Gossamer ceiling fans, plus custom designed mahogany louvered windows, providing year round comfort.

The infrastructure of an island can be an enormous challenge, but this project has mastered it. Utilizing a 2.5kwh solar system along with a 1kwh wind generator, the 25kwh propane generator is rarely needed. On rare occasions the generator can be fired up to top off the deep cycle batteries if there are long periods of overcast days.

Water is supplied by rain catchment and then purified for use throughout the property. The system is so efficient that the 4000gpd desalination system is rarely, if ever, used. It's simply not needed, but is there in case of extremely long periods of dry weather.

The septic system is handled by an automatic composting system using super low flush toilets and a full grey water treatment system that purifies the effluent so well it can be used as for landscape irrigation.

Communications are handled by DirecWay internet service and Vonage satellite VoIP. DirecTV provides all the channels you would get in the states so you'll never miss your favorite show or sporting event.

Additional features include at 250 foot dock with 3 slips, a 25 foot by 40 foot storage and tool center, a 20 foot by 35 foot generator and desalination building, a caretaker's residence, a huge inventory of tools and supplies, a tractor with implements, and a 29 foot Mexican skiff with two Yamaha 100 four stroke engines.

The Castaways Reef Project is the only project to be officially approved by the Belize Department of the Environment and other governmental agencies, for the construction of over-water cabanas on an extensive dock system, typically seen on islands in the South Pacific.
